WHERE IS OUR PLANET?

LOTS OF NEWS THAT ALMOST NO ONE UNDERSTANDS

So let's try a little perspective. That's a rendition of our galaxy, Milky Way, and somewhere safe (not likely to get bumped into) between two of the spiral arms is our solar system.

IT'S IN HERE SOMEWHERE

OUR SUN IS A STAR, AND THERE ARE ABOUT 1022 stars in our galaxy.
(There are also about 1022 galaxies in our universe.)

In case you haven't run into it before that's "scientific notation" and it's easier than writing out the 22 (less 1) zeros. It's a really big number like ten thousand, trillion, trillion, or 100000000000000000000000. See what I mean.

I like to write about these spectacular things because they blow my mind no matter how often I do it (and we have only started). Below is a closer view of a part of this galaxy.

AH! FOUND IT.

WHY GO THROUGH ALL THIS TROUBLE?

It's because I have heard the world "awesome" so often and know that most people (not counting scientists) don't have a clue awhat "awesome" is really like. So this is a clue to what the Earth is like and we are going to look at what is happening to it on the next page. Just click one of the pictures.
