The full meaning of something important sometimes dawns slowly.
There is a debate raging between those who deny humans have contributed to global warming, those who debate between 1.1, 1.2, 1.5 and 2°C temperature rise and a few outliers.
I am a 100% outlier.
The issue is not who or what did it or the number of degrees. It is one simple fact:
IF WE STOPPED PUTTING OUT ALL CARBON DIOXIDE TODAY
THE EARTH WOULD CONTINUE TO WARM
FROM THE CARBON DIOXIDE WE HAVE ALREADY PUT IN THE AIR
The earth would gradually become uninhabitable or a shadow of its former self. We passed the tripping point of 350 PPM years back.
The Earth, all of us and the entire universe were born in the Cosmic Singularity (the big bang) 13.82 billion years ago. Within 200 years we will have destroyed this jewel of the cosmos.
Human beings have always stepped up to the plate, except so far when everything is at stake I find less that a handful of people who understand that stepping up to the plate requires a world war on carbon dioxide starting immediately.
It means a Herculean effort, likely trillions of dollars, to turn back the clock and return the atmosphere to 350 ppm CO2 as rapidly as possible and hope that is sufficient.
There is no other choice.
